How Recommendations Work

EUnify may suggest universities, programs, or cities based on your profile. Unlike many apps, we're completely transparent about how these recommendations work and why you see specific suggestions.

Ranking Factors

When we show recommendations, we consider:

Profile Match

  • Academic background: Your current education level and field
  • Study interests: Subjects you've indicated interest in
  • Career goals: Your professional aspirations
  • Language skills: Programs you can study in

Preferences Match

  • Budget: Tuition and living costs within your range
  • Location: Countries or cities you've shown interest in
  • Program type: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD level

Data Quality

  • Completeness: Institutions with more complete data may rank higher
  • Freshness: Recently updated information is preferred
No Paid Placement: We never accept payment to rank institutions higher. All recommendations are based solely on match quality and data completeness.

"Why Am I Seeing This?"

EUnify provides full transparency about recommendations:

  2. Tap "Why am I seeing this?"
This option appears on recommendation cards.
  3. View Ranking Factors

Our Algorithm

Unlike many platforms that use opaque machine learning, EUnify uses rule-based algorithms:

  • Transparent: We can explain exactly why each suggestion appears
  • Predictable: Same inputs always produce same outputs
  • Fair: No hidden biases from training data
  • Auditable: Our ranking logic can be independently verified

P2B Regulation Compliance

EUnify fully complies with the EU Platform-to-Business (P2B) Regulation, which requires:

  • Ranking transparency: We must explain how rankings work
  • No discrimination: All institutions are treated equally
  • Clear terms: Our methodology is publicly documented
  • Advance notice: We provide 15 days notice before algorithm changes

Read More: Our complete ranking methodology is available in the P2B Annex of our legal documentation.

Improving Recommendations

To get better recommendations:

  1. Complete your profile: More information helps us match better
  2. Set preferences: Budget, location, and language settings matter
  3. Update regularly: As your interests change, update your profile
  4. Browse naturally: Your browsing patterns help refine suggestions

Disabling Recommendations

If you prefer to browse without personalization:

  1. Go to Profile > Settings
  2. Find "Personalization" settings
  3. Toggle off "Personalized Recommendations"

You'll still see all content, but suggestions won't be tailored to your profile.

Data Used for Recommendations

Recommendations are generated using only:

  • Profile data you explicitly provide
  • Preferences you set in the app
  • Session-level browsing (not tracked across sessions)

We never:

  • Track you across apps or websites
  • Share your data with third parties for targeting
  • Use persistent identifiers for profiling
