AI Use & Transparency Policy
How we use artificial intelligence across our services, your rights regarding AI systems, and our commitments to transparency and user control.
- We do not train AI on your data without explicit consent
- AI-assisted features are clearly indicated
- Human oversight is maintained for significant decisions
- You can opt out of AI personalization
1. Core Principles
Our approach to AI is guided by four foundational commitments:
| Principle | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Human-First | AI assists users; it does not make decisions for them |
| Transparency | Users are informed when AI is involved |
| User Control | You remain responsible for content you share |
| Privacy Protection | Personal data is safeguarded against misuse |
2. What We Mean by AI
For this policy, "AI" refers to automated systems capable of:
- Generating text, summaries, or responses
- Classifying or categorizing content
- Providing personalized recommendations
- Drafting assistance and suggestions
- Supporting content moderation workflows
This includes both generative AI (like language models) and traditional machine learning systems (like recommendation engines).
3. AI Training & Your Data
3.1 No Training Without Consent
We do not use personal data or user content to train or fine-tune general-purpose AI models.
This is a firm commitment. Any future training on user data would require:
- Explicit, informed opt-in consent
- Clear in-product prompts explaining what data is used
- Easy ability to withdraw consent at any time
3.2 Withdrawing Consent
If you previously consented to any AI training:
- You can withdraw consent at any time through Settings
- Withdrawal takes effect immediately for future processing
- Previously processed data cannot be "unlearned" from trained models
4. Transparency Requirements
4.1 Disclosure
We indicate AI involvement when:
- Content is generated or substantially drafted by AI
- You interact with an AI-powered assistant or chatbot
- Recommendations are based on AI analysis
- Required by law (e.g., EU AI Act, DSA)
4.2 Synthetic Media
AI-generated or substantially modified images, audio, or video ("deepfakes") are labeled as required by applicable law.
4.3 User Responsibility
When you use AI-assisted features:
- You must review outputs before sharing
- AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading
- You are responsible for content you publish, even if AI-assisted
5. What AI Cannot Do
AI systems on our platform cannot:
| Limitation | Reason |
|---|---|
| Make legally binding decisions | Legal decisions require human judgment |
| Autonomously suspend accounts | Account actions require human review |
| Replace required human review | Significant decisions need human oversight |
| Determine legal rights or obligations | Legal matters require qualified professionals |
| Provide professional advice | Legal, medical, financial advice requires licensed professionals |
6. AI in Content Moderation
6.1 Assistance Role
AI assists our moderation team by:
- Flagging potentially violating content for review
- Detecting spam, malware, and coordinated abuse
- Prioritizing review queues based on severity
- Identifying patterns of policy violations
6.2 Human Final Decisions
Humans make final enforcement decisions. Specifically:
- Account suspensions and terminations require human review
- Content removal for borderline cases involves human judgment
- Appeals are reviewed by human moderators
6.3 CathAI (On-Device Assistant)
CathAI is an optional on-device AI assistant in some of our apps:
- Processes queries locally on your device
- vaicat servers never access these interactions
- No data from CathAI is used for training
7. Your Controls
7.1 AI Personalization
You can control AI-powered personalization:
- Disable recommendations: Settings → Privacy → Personalization
- Clear recommendation history: Resets AI suggestions
- Opt out of AI features: Use standard (non-AI) alternatives
7.2 Objection Rights
Under GDPR Article 21, you may object to automated processing based on legitimate interests. Contact privacy@vaicat.com to exercise this right.
7.3 Human Review
For any automated decision that significantly affects you, you can request:
- An explanation of the decision logic
- Human review of the decision
- The opportunity to contest the decision
8. EUnify Matching
EUnify uses rule-based matching, not machine learning:
- Recommendations based on your stated preferences (academic interests, budget, location)
- Deterministic rules, not probabilistic AI models
- No payment influences ranking
- You can disable personalization entirely in Settings
9. mEUvy CathAI Assistant
9.1 How CathAI Works
CathAI is mEUvy's AI assistant powered by Apple Foundation Models. It provides personalized city and job recommendations based on your preferences.
9.2 On-Device Processing
Key privacy feature: CathAI processes all data locally on your device. Your personal information is never sent to external AI services for processing.
- AI processing happens on your iPhone
- No data sent to vaicat servers for AI analysis
- No data sent to third-party AI providers
- Conversations are not stored on our servers
9.3 EU AI Act Classification
Under the EU AI Act, CathAI is classified as a "limited risk" AI system (Article 52). This means:
- We clearly disclose that you are interacting with an AI
- AI-generated content is indicated where appropriate
- You can access transparency information in app settings
9.4 Capabilities & Limitations
CathAI can:
- Suggest cities matching your preferences
- Help compare locations and jobs
- Answer questions about EU cities and relocation
- Provide general information and guidance
CathAI cannot:
- Provide legal, immigration, or financial advice
- Make decisions on your behalf
- Guarantee accuracy of city data or job listings
- Access data beyond what's on your device
9.5 Disabling CathAI
You can disable CathAI at any time in Settings → Privacy & Consent. The app will continue to work with manual search and browse features. Disabling CathAI does not affect your saved data or preferences.
